Get creative without special effects! Just whip out some good old fashioned projection trickery, and bring some life and personality to your project, all without relying on the third arm of CGI effects. The guys at The Theory are at it again with a great dosage of unique storytelling tactics that incite the imagination, and challenge the status quo!
I love that this short film just follows basic elements of good directing, editing, and storytelling to communicate a simple story with a technique that doesn’t distract, but instead engages my interest and splashes it with unique personality.
As I was first watching this I had to keep asking myself if what I was watching was truly a “fully projected effect”, and not just digitally created. It’s hard to imagine being creative without the use of high-end effects, widgets, apps, or creme cheese frosting.
This concept brings us back to the basics of creativity: taking existing elements and organizing them in a new way. It works in this instance and re-engages an audience with a cop and robber story that’s been told time and time again.
So are you stuck in a “got-a-solve-it-with-CGI” mode? Why not simply get back to the basics of telling a good story by organizing existing elements in an unusual way?
I think I’ll give it a try on my next project.
